Lexus finally released the video where it brings the “flying skateboard” (hoverboard) in operation, after a month of mystery.
The hoverboard works with ceramic superconductors cooled with liquid nitrogen. The board reaches a critical temperature of -197 ° C, where it uses nitrogen to be able to cool and with that gives the effect of the smoke coming out from the sides, but it also means that it is time to refuel. It floats up to 20 minutes with each refill of nitrogen.
But for the flying skateboard to float it is necessary to have a specific track, because it floats thanks to the interaction of electromagnets with a copper floor that was built especially for the test containing 200 meters in Barcelona, Spain, the hoverpark. Check the evolution of the project in the videos.
The course was covered by professional skater Ross McGouran who tells how the learning process was: “I spent 20 years skating, but without the friction it seems that I had to learn a totally new skill, especially in the posture and balance you need to walk on the hoverboard ”.
Well, one thing is for sure the hoverboard manufactured by Lexus will not be sold differently from the Hendo Hover, which costs US $ 10,000, and therefore the great solutions that use magnetic levitation are far from the public’s reach.
